Zimbabwe National Clean Up Campaign:What is it all about ?

 By Hosia Mviringi

 Background and Purpose of Event.

Those of us who are of a Christian background and inclination will recall what the Bible says about cleanliness being next to Godliness.Without wanting to convert anyone into the religion let me try to quote one verse in which God implores his people to be in his likeness.

One such character of God is cleanliness. In the verse the word of God himself says Be holy for I am holy.In other words holiness means cleanliness of heart and pureness of deeds.

But then as the word urges us to be clean it goes on to identify and claim the human body as the temple of God.In that vein he urges man to sanctify , purify , and to prepare himself to be a true sanctuary of the living God.

But in applying this to our earthly daily life we discover the likeness of God in us because it has become our nature to want live in clean surroundings.

It goes without saying that we are a natural likeness of God.Just look around yourself right now as you read.Does the surrounding environment please you and make you wanna praise God ?
Or lets come closer home.Look at youself right now.Do you think that if you were God you would live in your body ? Are you satisfied that your surroundings are fit for habitation by a true temple of God-you ?

Therefore this is a call for introspection.
Our hearts should drive us to want to live a clesn life. But a clean life is not possible in the middle of a heap of stinking rubble.

A clean life is a beautiful life.

National Clean Up Day, which falls on the first Friday of every Month came as a proclamation by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe HE Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa. This is an inspirational call by the Head of State for us as citizens to look around and say are we satisfied with the state of our environment.

What are the benefits of living in a clean environment ?
Zimbabwe in recent years has been inflicted by a litany of many mideval diseases which should not be heard of in the 21st Century. These diseases include among others Dysentry, Cholera, Typhoid, Tuberculosis and many others.

These diseases are a result of drinking from polluted water sources.Poorly disposed garbage pollutes our water sources.
Yet burning garbage and litter pollutes the air that we breath. This breeds respiratory diseases that can be prevented.

Most if not all of these diseases are a result of living in unclean environments. We have lost our beloved relatives to such preventable diseases.

We can not even try to quantify the extent of loses that the economy suffers as a result of these preventable diseases. The nation loses productive time as citizen suffer a lay off due to sickness while the economy bleeds the scarce foreign currency on drug imports.

A healthy nation is a prosperous nation.
So why not heed the call by the President to make it a habbit to clean our environment ? The President led by example when he took to the street to clean our environment.

In today's street lingo they say SMART inotangira kutsoka, Ukuhlanzeka kuqalisa enyaweni, Smartness starts at your feet.It is a call to begin by taking small step of cleaning just where you are standing. If each of us takes care of where we are standing right now I have no doubt that a clean nation is achievable.

A Clean Nation is our National Vision.
A clean Nation is our President's Vision.
Its achievable.
A Clean Nation is a Healthy Nation and a healthy nation is a productive and prosperous nation.

There are numerous economic benefits of cleaning up our environment. In developed nations litter and garbage recycling is a multi-billion dollar industry. Our local youths and entrepreneurs should embrace this initiative by the President and make money through recycling.

We can tap into the readily available local resources through recycling.Other nations produce energy out of recycled matter.Others produce building materials out of recycled matter.

So cleaning up and recycling is a whole industry just waiting to be exploited.
If we buy into this idea as a nation we are only doing good unto ourselves.

Recycling will save the nation forex as an import substitution model. It is an industry with potential to create thousands of jobs for unemployed youths while earning foreigh currency through  exports.

There are many other benefits of living a clean life.Every citizen should aspire to be part of this national vision which seeks to place us among the cleanest countries in Africa.
Cleanliness is a measure and reflection of our civilization.

Zimbabwe is our nation.Lets preserve it.Let keep Zimbabwe Clean.

After 23 years, UK-ZIM relations thawing

#SundayMussings  Prof. Jonathan Moyo It's International Relations 101 that a penchant for and infatuation with trivialities is not part of diplomacy, it's trivial pursuit. With this in mind, one does not have to hold a brief for anyone to understand that the coronation of King Charles III was essentially a showcase of an archaic and obnoxious tradition of hereditary rule - frowned upon in most parts of the world now under republican rule of one sort or another, while still a big deal in the United Kingdom of once upon a time, Great Britain - that dates back some 1,000 years ago. There’s therefore nothing geopolitically significant or even interesting about that primitive culture, where someone called Charles was crowned head of state by virtue of his birth at a ceremony where "His Majesty's Government" had no qualms about displaying the full repertoire of imperial loot like the stolen African Star and majestic gold from former British colonies, many of whose lead...

In defence of Lindiwe Sisulu - SA Constitution not Sacred, Judges not demi-gods

Professor Arthur Mutambara The SA Constitution is not Sacred and SA Judges are not Demigods.   By Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara 13 January 2022   Minister Lindiwe Sisulu penned an opinion piece on 7 January 2022 titled: ‘Hi Mzansi, have we seen justice?’  It was quite a refreshing critique of the challenges confronting South Africa.  Sisulu’s right to express herself and the content of her remarks must be vigorously defended without equivocation or ambiguity. On 8 January 2022, soon after I read the opinion piece, I publicly expressed the following remarks: ‘Wow, what a piece by Lindiwe Sisulu. I am pleasantly surprised that some in the ANC still get it and are prepared to articulate it eloquently. The issue is how to get such incisive thinking to influence the ANC and the country's direction. Is it a lost cause?’ I stand by these utterances. There has been quite several articles and remarks attacking Minister Sisulu. The ba...
LAWYERS DEMO : DELIVERY OF JUSTICE OR PROTECTING THE CASH COW ?   By Hosia Mviringi 31 January 2019 On 29 January 2019 the nation woke up to the news that Lawyers under the banner of the Law Society of Zimbabwe was demonstrating against lack of or misdelivery of justice in the Courts in Zimbabwe. I write this article with a heavy heart knowing that my brother is a loyal member of the fraternity.I will try to be professional and speak my mind. What baffles the mind is the fact that the Lawyers are officers of the same Courts which they have served under the Law Society of Zimbabwe in defence of the accused for many years since independence. They have not seen this so called misdelivery of justice until only yesterday after the violent demonstration of the 14th of January 2019. What has changed now to warrant the demonstration by the Lawyers against the same Courts to which they have served or are serving as officers and partners ? Lets try to unpack the conundrum. Soon...
