CITADEL OF EVIL : The tale of the CHURCH in Zimbabwe.

 By Hosia Mviringi

Tuesday, 26 February 2019.

Today let me start by exploring a littte about the role of the Church in the context of the religious , social, political and economic development of the African Continent in general and Zimbabwe in particular.

We shall try to briefly revisit history to see how and why the church came to Zimbabwe.

The Church has since time immemorial been a key player in the Non-Governmental Sector in Africa and in Zimbabwe in particular.
The Christian Missionary activities have in one way or another affected almost every Sub Saharan African country.

Hundreds of Christian Missionaries came to Africa in the early 19th Century purportedly to evangelise and turn the 'Pagans' to the salvation of the 'Kingdom of God', which was according to their own spiritual understanding and interpretation.

They apparently disregarded the African ways of worship which they undoubtedly viewed as inferior or at most as not in tandem with their broader goal of pacifying the natives for conquest.

We should make a clear distinction between the ideal Missionary spiritual work and their real work on the ground.

The Missionaries became the forerunners to the armed columns which later colonised Africa. The Church then as now was responsible for studying the African terrain for ease of partitioning as was later achieved at the Berlin Conference.

This is very important information which forms the basis of my thesis today. We will be witnesses to how the Church has contributed to our current state of affairs and how the church continues to work towards a broader foreign objective.

Upon arrival of Missionaries Africa was in no way a spiritual vacuum and neither was it a spiritual blank cheque.Africans had their own God, Musikavanhu in Shona. They had their own way of worship which yielded results as evidenced by the peace and organisational stability that prevailed then.

The African Prayers could be answered by the African God instantaneously. The evidence is replete in history. But upon arrival of Missionaries the African God was relegated to the dust bin of history while the African was forced to exhalt an alien God.

Africans threw away the God of their fore fathers and embraced the ' God of Abraham, God of Isaac and God of Jacob'. Africans did not have a relation to this geneology.

Africans never had an idea what this God had done to these men inorder to qualify as their God.
Moreso Africans were never told why this 'God' qualified to be the African 'God' too.

That was the grand theft in History.Stealing a God is tantamount to stealing a whole history and destroying a future.
If you want to destroy a people you first destroy their spirituality.Ours was stolen destroyed.
Mbuya Nehanda our great Spirit Medium was brutally hanged , Sekuru Chaminuka was imprisoned and tortured and later killed. Our spiritual being was left desolate.

We can't relate to our African God anymore because we were taught that he is a lesser God and by worshiping him we become Pagans...
Our spirituality was bastardized in broad daylight.
What an insult to African conscience !

Africans did not need a foreign religion in order to concile with her God.Africa had her own customs, way of worship and an established governance system which yielded results and justice in time.

The colonialists rode on the Bible-induced African docility to capture vast tracts of land and to exploit, plunder and expatriate African resources, while the African was displaced and driven to uninhabitable regions.

The Church in Zimbabwe and many other regions in Africa is guilty of this unforgivable sin.

The God that the Missionaries imported into Africa is a God who is famed of delivering Israelites out of captivity.
Now it baffles the mind how the same God would change in Africa such that he would be the one driving Africans back into captivity and slavery.
There is no such a God.

The Church in Zimbabwe had successfully presented itself as a Cathedral of Hope, Peace, Unity and Freedom from bondage.

But today it is acting as a true Citadel of Evil.Dispossesion of resources is not holy by any definition.Today Africa is regarded as desolate yet it was and is probably the richest continent by resources.

The Church indoctrinated Africans on the gospel of life after death, which gospel conditioned us to disregard earthly riches and only to worry about heavenly salvation.Yet in Europe the built modern cities using African resources. They built Heaven on Earth yet they encouraged Africans to disregard earthly riches and wait for 'Heavenly'riches.A hundred years passed yet Heaven never descended upon the poor African.

Hypocritical Gospel it is.

Let me quote the Bible here ...

Matthew 6:26-34 *New King James Version* (NKJV)

_26 _Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one [a]cubit to his [b]stature?

28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not [c]arrayed like one of these.
30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble". *END of Quote* .

This is a whole section of the Bible devoted to making the African go to sleep and not compete for resources with the European Colonial master.Resultantly the African became a free prisoner of religion and we continue to nurse poverty in the middle of plentiful natural resources.

But still the Church in Zimbabwe does not seem to repent from this cardinal century old sin.

The post-colonial era in Zimbabwe saw the church continue to lead the Civic society in perpetuation of the dependance syndrom where they engage in petty humanitarianism.

The church under the banner of the Zimbabwe Council Of Churches has reactivated its pre-colonial role of delivering Zimbabwe on a platter to the imperialist forces, this time using fellow black natives.

The church has indeed become the CITADEL OF EVIL  because under the collective banner of the ZCC the church has become a Political movement on its own.
There is now a new political activism which hails from the sacred alter of sacrifice disguised as the gospel.

We now have a new and rare breed of political activists who operate on the pulpit with a dog collar around their neck.Preachers, pastors, Bishops, Deacons and other religious players now shamelessly dabble in politics in broad daylight in disregard to the sanctity of the pulpit.

So it will go without saying that unavoidably one day these religious political activists will have to choose whether to be treated as politicians or Pastors. But its just too obvious that they have been swallowed by political activism and an insatible appetite for money.

One Elizabeth Isichel once described the role of the Church in the Congo in her book A History of Christianity in Africa , from Antiquity to the Present.

She said, "The clergy did more harm than good to the progress of Christianity among the Kongo. Most of them spent more time in trade and connived or participated in Slave trade".

Now we all know why missionaries came to Africa. It was never for the love of African so much that they wanted Africans to be saved.Far from it.
Its about African resources STUPID !

Today we see a continuation of the same modus operandi if we dare open our eyes.

Recently in Zimbabwe it will be recalled that the Zimbabwe Council of Churches ( ZCC) issued an adverse post election report after the most peaceful and orderly elections ever conducted on African soil. The ZCC did not witness even a fly dying from election related violence, yet their report only started on 1 August 2018 when defeated hooligans tried to distort the outcome by engaging in violence.

It is common knowledge that the ZCC report formed the basis of the European Union Observer Mission's final report which in turn informed the EU Parliament's decision to extend sanctions on Zimbabwe.
The country has endured these sanctions for nineteen years. But the church works hard to sustain such an EVIL punitive regime which has resulted in numerous deaths from curable diseases. Its EVIL.

Sanctions are a crime against humanity and should be condemned by all humanitarian activists who believe in the sanctity of life, the church included.

The Church should represent the interests of the down trodden. It should be the role of the church to call for the unconditional and total scraping of this embargo because it hurts the poor.

The church in Zimbabwe has become elitist and it can only be proper to treat these prostituting pastors, bishops and preachers as politicians, because thats what they are.

Politicians can engage in dirty tricks such as deception, smear campaigns, divisionism etc because its part of their game.
But I can bet my last RTGS Dollar the Church today beats the politicians in the practice.

A good example of one prostituting Pastor is non other than one Rev. Dr Kenneth Mtata. He is the General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Counci of Churches who has played a critical role since coming on board from the Danish Church Aid.He has achieved in a very short time what others would achieve in ten years. He has conquered the church , delivered the bounty to the master and the church is now beholden..

Rev. Dr Mtata has almost successfully delivered the church back to the Pre-colonial mandate of being an imperialist front.
Because he has got the master keys to the vault, who can dare oppose him? So he leads a completely captured church which can do anything for the dime.

Rev. Dr Kenneth Mtata laid his true colours bare when he turned down an appointment to the Presidential Advisory Council recently.
While he would lead in disapproval of the slightest misgovernance, he had a chance to advise the King but selfish interests had the better of him.

The very same colonial Bible teaches believers to be obedient to authority.A good example is found in the book of Daniel.Despite Daniel's sharp religious disagreements with the King, he was called by the king to give advice and translate a dream and he obliged. He first  prayed for the King before praying for a revelation.

Daniel did not go onto rooftops to announce that King Nebuchadenezar had enquired of him about his dream.
Daniel recieved the revelation from God and went in to advise the King privately with honour. Now compare this with the dishonourable behaviour of one Rev. Dr Kenneth Mtata.

President Mnangagwa had a dream and a vision for this country of which HE knew that there safety among a multitude of advisors.

It can only smack of a sinister motive behind which one can not hide for too long.
It confirms the adage that say, ' he who pays the piper plays the tune'.
We all know that Rev. Mtata holds the key to the vault. He could not resist the strong urge for the love of money.

Rev. Kenneth Mtata represents a crop of greedy, egoistic, pompous, selfish and self-important 'men of Gold' who can sell their soul to the highest bidder.
He leads a dangerous group of money-mongering group of religious politicians and activists who hide behind the dog collar to present themselves as pastors.

The ZCC is a well funded meddlesome clique of the Church in Zimbabwe which has literally transformed itself into a political think tank of opposition politics in Zimbabwe.

It was the subject of my previous instalment about how the ZCC has been and continues to be used as a conduit for financing opposition political activities which include clandestine financing of acts of banditry, funding and training of mercenaries within and without the country's borders.

It has become necessary to expose this untoward behaviour by the church and its leaders in Zimbabwe. We will continue to expose these activities for the good of the people and well being of Zimbabwe.

On 21 February 2019 the Zimbabwe Council of Churches had a meeting at the Anglican Cathedral near the Parliament of Zimbabwe. The theme of the meeting was , 'Empowering the Church for National Transformation'.
The church at this meeting discussed strategies of empowering and encouraging Youths , Members of Parliament and Councillors to make effective laws to avoid what they termed ' the January brutality by Security forces'.

Behold dear reader, these are National Security matters being discussed in a 'church' , or is it still a church or its become just but a venue ?
This is pure political language being spoken in church to a purported 'non-political audience'.
More details of the meeting will be revealed in the fullness of time.

But we can all understand from the theme that this was not a spiritual workshop but a purely political workshop where a lot of brainstorming was involved and political strategies formulated.
I am yet to get the identities of the beneficiaries of such political strategies.

It is my sincere hope that Rev. Dr Kenneth Mtata will one day give answers to the nation on such questions as;
How does a pastor become a political strategist and advisor to a political party ?
How do matters of political strategy fit into the spiritual mandate of the church ?
Answers to these questions and more will be demanded in the near future for the sake of national cohersion.

The church in Zimbabwe and the Pastoral fraternity in particular have exposed themselves for who they truly are; hyenas in sheep's clothing. They have redefined and reverted back to their original mandate of delivering Zimbabwe back to the colonial masters.

This they intend to do by funding any activities with the slightest potential to distabilise the government in Zimbabwe.Such activities are clearly visible aren't they ?
Those of super religious disposition are forewarned so that they avoid disappointment.Thats the church for you.
The devil has stolen the Bible and replaced the pages therein.

That is why I say that the Church has become a CITADEL OF EVIL. The devil is in control of the pulpit.Believers beware.
Its not too late to correct this however.
The church can re-write the script.

How can the nation afford to have such conflicted, poisoned and captured clergy as Rev. DR Kenneth Mtata as arbiter and mediator in our political discourse ? Arbiter from hell he will be.His preferences are well known. Its no secret to whose tune he will play.

One important thing to bear in mind is that the President of the Republic derives his mandate from the people who put him into office. Therefore when he engages in any dialogue or negotiations he carries with him a mandate to represent the aspirations of the people.

One person can not pretend that they can armtwist the President and usurp the wishes, hopess and aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe.

What if the people of Zimbabwe demand the complete removal of sanctions before any dialogue resumes with any and all Western appendages in Zimbabwe ? That would constitute fairness in engagement wouldn't it ?

What if I ask for one thing from the Church in general and Rev. Mtata in particular.
When will the Church and the clergy raise a collective voice against the ruinous sanctions regime on Zimbabwe ?
When will the Church use  the power of numbers to mobilise the world against an economic embargo on Zimbabwe ?

I think that is more humanitarian than this continued fixation on regime change politics.Sanctions hurt the poor and the down trodden.Sanctions dont hurt politicians.
I am still waiting to join the church on a grand march against sanctions.

The church can not under these circumstances expect the respect and honour of mediator's role in national dialogue with such a conflicted stand point. No at least not now.

Kutsho Mina !

After 23 years, UK-ZIM relations thawing

#SundayMussings  Prof. Jonathan Moyo It's International Relations 101 that a penchant for and infatuation with trivialities is not part of diplomacy, it's trivial pursuit. With this in mind, one does not have to hold a brief for anyone to understand that the coronation of King Charles III was essentially a showcase of an archaic and obnoxious tradition of hereditary rule - frowned upon in most parts of the world now under republican rule of one sort or another, while still a big deal in the United Kingdom of once upon a time, Great Britain - that dates back some 1,000 years ago. There’s therefore nothing geopolitically significant or even interesting about that primitive culture, where someone called Charles was crowned head of state by virtue of his birth at a ceremony where "His Majesty's Government" had no qualms about displaying the full repertoire of imperial loot like the stolen African Star and majestic gold from former British colonies, many of whose lead...

In defence of Lindiwe Sisulu - SA Constitution not Sacred, Judges not demi-gods

Professor Arthur Mutambara The SA Constitution is not Sacred and SA Judges are not Demigods.   By Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara 13 January 2022   Minister Lindiwe Sisulu penned an opinion piece on 7 January 2022 titled: ‘Hi Mzansi, have we seen justice?’  It was quite a refreshing critique of the challenges confronting South Africa.  Sisulu’s right to express herself and the content of her remarks must be vigorously defended without equivocation or ambiguity. On 8 January 2022, soon after I read the opinion piece, I publicly expressed the following remarks: ‘Wow, what a piece by Lindiwe Sisulu. I am pleasantly surprised that some in the ANC still get it and are prepared to articulate it eloquently. The issue is how to get such incisive thinking to influence the ANC and the country's direction. Is it a lost cause?’ I stand by these utterances. There has been quite several articles and remarks attacking Minister Sisulu. The ba...
LAWYERS DEMO : DELIVERY OF JUSTICE OR PROTECTING THE CASH COW ?   By Hosia Mviringi 31 January 2019 On 29 January 2019 the nation woke up to the news that Lawyers under the banner of the Law Society of Zimbabwe was demonstrating against lack of or misdelivery of justice in the Courts in Zimbabwe. I write this article with a heavy heart knowing that my brother is a loyal member of the fraternity.I will try to be professional and speak my mind. What baffles the mind is the fact that the Lawyers are officers of the same Courts which they have served under the Law Society of Zimbabwe in defence of the accused for many years since independence. They have not seen this so called misdelivery of justice until only yesterday after the violent demonstration of the 14th of January 2019. What has changed now to warrant the demonstration by the Lawyers against the same Courts to which they have served or are serving as officers and partners ? Lets try to unpack the conundrum. Soon...
