06 January 2019.

By Zimbo24news Team.

People living with disabilities have added their voice condemning the proposed strikes and demonstrations by Civil sevants.

In a communique released yesterday they expressed disgust at how politicians seem to rush to hijack workers' grievances for tjeir political gain. They urged both government and thme the labour unions to negotiate in good faith for a peaceful resolution of the impasse.

They sounded their deep seated fears that every whenever violence breaks out their members will always be victims.

Zimb24news hereby publishes the full transcript of the Communique.

EMANCIPATE DISABILITY CONSTITUENCY TRUST.

Position on the Proposed Strikes and Demonstrations.

05 January 2019.

As enshrined in Chapter 59 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, every person has a right to peaceful demonstration. This right is guaranteed and Zimbanweans have exercised this right for many years now.

But if we look back in history we discover that this right has been abused and violated many times as most of these demonstrations have ended with one violation or another, with extreme cases being loss of lives.

This was once again the case on 01 August 2018 when what was touted as a peaceful demonstration ended up with a loss of six lives, wanton destruction to property and injuries to many.

As in most cases people with DISABILITIES are always caught up in tje crossfire and they pay dearly through injuries and in some cases death since they cannot rescue themselves.

It is our considered view that strikes and demonstrations are not the best ways to solve differences.Demonstrations bring together participants from different backgrounds with different persuations and motives. It is easy for people with ulterior motives to hijack these for selfish ends.
Thus we strongly discourage them and WE refuse to be part of them.

On 23 June 2018 we witnessed first hand at Bulawayo's White City when a bomb was thrown at a peaceful ZANU PF rally. It was only discovered when the dust had settled that Mr Joshua Malinga who is Special Disability Advisor to the President had been saved by the Grace of God.While everyone could think of themselves, Mr Malinga could not help himself.

This is the danger we are exposed to as people with DISABILITIES.

On 01 August 2018 in Harare one of the deceased had disabilities while one of the seriously injured had a hearing impairment. These innocent victims were not part of the protesters but they were victims because they could not help themselves.
People with disabilities are the most affected whenever violence breaks out.

As People living with DISABILITIES we do hereby call upon Politicians to stop medling with the Workers' bodies and give them room to negotiate with their employer in good faith without undue negative influence and or incitement.

We also call upon the Government as the biggest employer to negotiate in good faith and be cognisant of the suffering that tje workers have endured due to economic hardships. An ammicable agreement is possible in peace.

We cannot destroy our own country so that we can rebuild it.

Politicians should stop taking advantage of the economic challenges to settle their Political scores through using the suffering masses as pawns in a game of Chess.
We cannot continue losing lives and property through these ill concieved demonstrations that only serve selfish interests.

Emancipate Disability Constituency Trust urges all people with disabilities be it visual, physical, mental and hearing among other forms of disabilities to denounce and discourage these demonstrations because we are the most affected constituency whenever violence breaks.

There are other better ways of resolving the issues affecting our country apart from demonstrations and violence.

Doctors , Teachers, Nurses and all other workers have a right to be heard, yet they still have a responsibility and obligation to serve the nation.

This is a strong message to the organisers ,instigators , sponsors or advisors to the planned demonstrations that people living with DISABILITIES say NO to these Demonstrations.

 NYASHA NHAU.

EMANCIPATE DISABILITY CONSTITUENCY TRUST DIRECTOR.

After 23 years, UK-ZIM relations thawing

#SundayMussings  Prof. Jonathan Moyo It's International Relations 101 that a penchant for and infatuation with trivialities is not part of diplomacy, it's trivial pursuit. With this in mind, one does not have to hold a brief for anyone to understand that the coronation of King Charles III was essentially a showcase of an archaic and obnoxious tradition of hereditary rule - frowned upon in most parts of the world now under republican rule of one sort or another, while still a big deal in the United Kingdom of once upon a time, Great Britain - that dates back some 1,000 years ago. There’s therefore nothing geopolitically significant or even interesting about that primitive culture, where someone called Charles was crowned head of state by virtue of his birth at a ceremony where "His Majesty's Government" had no qualms about displaying the full repertoire of imperial loot like the stolen African Star and majestic gold from former British colonies, many of whose lead...

In defence of Lindiwe Sisulu - SA Constitution not Sacred, Judges not demi-gods

Professor Arthur Mutambara The SA Constitution is not Sacred and SA Judges are not Demigods.   By Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara 13 January 2022   Minister Lindiwe Sisulu penned an opinion piece on 7 January 2022 titled: ‘Hi Mzansi, have we seen justice?’  It was quite a refreshing critique of the challenges confronting South Africa.  Sisulu’s right to express herself and the content of her remarks must be vigorously defended without equivocation or ambiguity. On 8 January 2022, soon after I read the opinion piece, I publicly expressed the following remarks: ‘Wow, what a piece by Lindiwe Sisulu. I am pleasantly surprised that some in the ANC still get it and are prepared to articulate it eloquently. The issue is how to get such incisive thinking to influence the ANC and the country's direction. Is it a lost cause?’ I stand by these utterances. There has been quite several articles and remarks attacking Minister Sisulu. The ba...
LAWYERS DEMO : DELIVERY OF JUSTICE OR PROTECTING THE CASH COW ?   By Hosia Mviringi 31 January 2019 On 29 January 2019 the nation woke up to the news that Lawyers under the banner of the Law Society of Zimbabwe was demonstrating against lack of or misdelivery of justice in the Courts in Zimbabwe. I write this article with a heavy heart knowing that my brother is a loyal member of the fraternity.I will try to be professional and speak my mind. What baffles the mind is the fact that the Lawyers are officers of the same Courts which they have served under the Law Society of Zimbabwe in defence of the accused for many years since independence. They have not seen this so called misdelivery of justice until only yesterday after the violent demonstration of the 14th of January 2019. What has changed now to warrant the demonstration by the Lawyers against the same Courts to which they have served or are serving as officers and partners ? Lets try to unpack the conundrum. Soon...
