Industry and Commerce Minister under fire.

03 January 2019

By Zimbo24news Team.

Zimbabwe's Industry and Commerce Minister Hon. Mangaliso Ndlovu has come under a barrage of fire for his alleged indifference in the face of deteriorating economy.

The youthful Minister has been described as having taken an 'indefinite leave' from work since his appointment to the portforlio.
This Minister who is probably the youngest member of President Mnangagwa's government is largely expected to be carrying the hopes and aspirations of the youth in Zimbabwe.

In the eyes of analysts and commentators the youthful Minister is an embodiment of the youth and is thus largely expected to bring in the youthful energy and zest into this traditionally old people's Cabinet.

But to their dismay he has been too quiet to justify his presence in the current government. This government has probably raised people's expectations too high by over-promising delivery, thus the high expectations.
Product shortages persist on the market without any reprieve in sight.Prices of basic goods have trebbled over the past four months of the new dispensation.

The President at many occassions has had to engage the Industrialists himself when prices of commodities were hitting the clouds. On one such occassion the President had to summon industrialists to Statehouse for an indaba aimed at stabilising prices on the market.

Yet the Minister of Industry and Commerce would have been the main arbiter in these circumstances. He should have taken an active role for a chance to display his diplomatic skills by engaging the industrialists and traders on behalf of the President and government.

On other occassions Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has been forced to make some overarching statements on behalf of the Industry and Commerce Ministry, yet Minister Ndlovu should be handling those queries.

He could have adopted quiet diplomacy but we believe that the market should be taking direction from his remarks from time to time.Infact our environment is not as normal as that would allow that level of comfort.

Or maybe we have come to expect too much from the man.Yes he is new in the game of politics understandably so.But at some point one needs to prove their worth and justify their inclusion in government. We cant afford to be on auto pilot during these turbulent times.

Even the President has had to cut short his annual leave in order to deal with some extraordinary labour challenges.

The Youthful Minister does not seem to love to communicate. The last time I checked I saw that he is not active on Social Media, itself a very important platform of communication.

The President himself runs vibrant social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and even Whatsapp.
Surely Minister Ndlovu at his age would be expected to be a good communicator of government policy and interventions in the face of rising prices , multi-tier pricing, product shortages and even apparent economic sabortage by some unscrupulous business people.

Minister Ndlovu would do well if he increases his communication intervals because the nation awaits a signal from his Ministry on the direction our economy is taking. The market cannot afford to continue drifting in the dark.

A statement from the Information Ministry yesterday seems to suggest that the Minister is about to open up.
This comes as Delta beverages, the biggest bottler of Coca Cola products, indicated that they will be selling their products in US Dollars, yet our consumers dont earn their salaries in USD.

This develolment has shocked the market, which could be the reason for his awakening.
The market waits for his statement for direction.

Some are ready making conclusions on his suitability for this esteemed office, with most suggesting that he is a good candidate for reasignment to other less demanding portfolios.
Icho !

After 23 years, UK-ZIM relations thawing

#SundayMussings  Prof. Jonathan Moyo It's International Relations 101 that a penchant for and infatuation with trivialities is not part of diplomacy, it's trivial pursuit. With this in mind, one does not have to hold a brief for anyone to understand that the coronation of King Charles III was essentially a showcase of an archaic and obnoxious tradition of hereditary rule - frowned upon in most parts of the world now under republican rule of one sort or another, while still a big deal in the United Kingdom of once upon a time, Great Britain - that dates back some 1,000 years ago. There’s therefore nothing geopolitically significant or even interesting about that primitive culture, where someone called Charles was crowned head of state by virtue of his birth at a ceremony where "His Majesty's Government" had no qualms about displaying the full repertoire of imperial loot like the stolen African Star and majestic gold from former British colonies, many of whose lead...

In defence of Lindiwe Sisulu - SA Constitution not Sacred, Judges not demi-gods

Professor Arthur Mutambara The SA Constitution is not Sacred and SA Judges are not Demigods.   By Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara 13 January 2022   Minister Lindiwe Sisulu penned an opinion piece on 7 January 2022 titled: ‘Hi Mzansi, have we seen justice?’  It was quite a refreshing critique of the challenges confronting South Africa.  Sisulu’s right to express herself and the content of her remarks must be vigorously defended without equivocation or ambiguity. On 8 January 2022, soon after I read the opinion piece, I publicly expressed the following remarks: ‘Wow, what a piece by Lindiwe Sisulu. I am pleasantly surprised that some in the ANC still get it and are prepared to articulate it eloquently. The issue is how to get such incisive thinking to influence the ANC and the country's direction. Is it a lost cause?’ I stand by these utterances. There has been quite several articles and remarks attacking Minister Sisulu. The ba...
LAWYERS DEMO : DELIVERY OF JUSTICE OR PROTECTING THE CASH COW ?   By Hosia Mviringi 31 January 2019 On 29 January 2019 the nation woke up to the news that Lawyers under the banner of the Law Society of Zimbabwe was demonstrating against lack of or misdelivery of justice in the Courts in Zimbabwe. I write this article with a heavy heart knowing that my brother is a loyal member of the fraternity.I will try to be professional and speak my mind. What baffles the mind is the fact that the Lawyers are officers of the same Courts which they have served under the Law Society of Zimbabwe in defence of the accused for many years since independence. They have not seen this so called misdelivery of justice until only yesterday after the violent demonstration of the 14th of January 2019. What has changed now to warrant the demonstration by the Lawyers against the same Courts to which they have served or are serving as officers and partners ? Lets try to unpack the conundrum. Soon...
