Panicky PSL discards baby and bathwater

Sports Reporter

The Premier Soccer League has suspended all football matches following the violence which erupted at Barbourfields stadium on Sunday.

Fans belonging to both Dynamos and Highlanders invaded the pitch in the final minutes, which led to the abandonment of the match.

Highlanders had just scored what appeared to be the winner when the commotion started, delirious Bosso fans invaded the pitch in celebration, while Dynamos fans did the same in protest.

Chaotic scenes followed, as law enforcement did their best to restrain the marauding fans without causing a stampede.

In an odd response to the incident, the Premier Soccer League has suspended the whole league.

Through a statement, the PSL said;

“The Premier Soccer League has suspended all Castle Lager PSL matches with immediate effect until further notice following incidents of violence and hooliganism that continue to take place in our football.

The PSL strongly condemns such acts as they can only serve to tarnish the beautiful game of football.

They did not give reason why other teams who were not involved in the fracas are being affected.

“We are currently engaging all key stakeholders to find lasting solutions to these challenges.

We have scheduled a meeting with Security Officials including the Zimbabwe Republic

Police, Club Security Officers and Marshals as well as stadium owners on Friday 20 May 2022,” the PSL said.

The PSL apologized to the sponsor and said they will be awaiting reports from both clubs and the ZRP before they institute disciplinary action.

We will take disciplinary action after receiving the said reports.

It is not yet clear what the PSL seeks to achieve with suspending clubs who were not involved in the match.

Teams like Triangle have had a clean record and may cry foul over the decisions.

Since the advent of Covid-19, PSL bosses have grown a penchant for stopping the league unnecessarily.

In December, the league went on a two-week break for Christmas which is unheard of in sporting terms.

Dambudzo Marechera: Letter to white ex-girlfriend

BELOW is a letter written by Dambudzo Marechera to his white ex-girlfriend, Samantha. The letter was written after Marechera had been expelled from Oxford University. Interesting read. Dear Samantha I think by now you have heard what happened when those hypocrites in administration chased me from their white university giving me an option between being sectioned or expelled. I chose the latter, a decision which shocked them out of their warped wits. I have forgiven them because together with you they thought as an African student from some remote Southern African country I was privileged for receiving tertiary education at Oxford, a learning institution they have overrated as a citadel of knowledge just like Cambridge or Harvard. It is such  academic mad houses that  keep on churning out arrogant, snobbish, hypocritical and pea-minded bastards who enter the world with the superior airs of holier-than-thou, we and them attitude calling themselves Doctors, Professors or a...

After 23 years, UK-ZIM relations thawing

#SundayMussings  Prof. Jonathan Moyo It's International Relations 101 that a penchant for and infatuation with trivialities is not part of diplomacy, it's trivial pursuit. With this in mind, one does not have to hold a brief for anyone to understand that the coronation of King Charles III was essentially a showcase of an archaic and obnoxious tradition of hereditary rule - frowned upon in most parts of the world now under republican rule of one sort or another, while still a big deal in the United Kingdom of once upon a time, Great Britain - that dates back some 1,000 years ago. There’s therefore nothing geopolitically significant or even interesting about that primitive culture, where someone called Charles was crowned head of state by virtue of his birth at a ceremony where "His Majesty's Government" had no qualms about displaying the full repertoire of imperial loot like the stolen African Star and majestic gold from former British colonies, many of whose lead...

The President, who left the country last night, leads Zimbabwe's Second Republic's charge towards economic independence and autonomy from the past colonial hegemony. The Summit is expected to give impetus to the African continent's drive towards provision of high-level political inclination towards attainment of a globally competitive Industrialisation program through public-private partnerships (PPPs) at national, regional, and continental levels. This will be achieved through deliberate policy coherence, coordination, and investment financing. The Extraordinary Session of the AfFTA will discuss among ot...
