Discrimination has no place in Africa - President Mnangagwa

President Mnangagwa has called on African governments and people to frown at all manner of racial discrimination which militates against the letter and spirit of African Unity and solidarity.
In a statement to mark the occasion of Africa Day Commemorations which was published on the eve of Africa Day, President Mnangagwa condemned all forms of discrimination meted on Africans by Africans in the name of racism and xenophobia.
He urged Africans to embrace each other, regardless of which region they are from in the spirit of brotherhood.
"Zimbabwe condemns both subtle and brute practices of racism and we call for an end to racial prejudices in all its forms, based on the principles of the fundamental equality of all races," said President Mnangagwa.
The President's message is in tandem with the aspirations of the founding fathers of the African Union which mainly centred around undoing the impediments to African unity brought by the imposition of artificial boundaries on the once united peoples.
Africa, which once was one big nation in which citizens could migrate, work and live anywhere without restrictions, is today imprisoned by artificial demarcations which have the adverse effect of suffocating the African spirit which used to roam freely.
In recent years, the continent has witnessed some of the most gruesome extermination of African lives at the hands of fellow Africans on the alter of xenophobia. Africans of today forget the sacrifices of yesterday who's principles were centred on the love for one another in the spirit of Ubuntu.
"The celebration of African Unity must therefore remind us on the continent and those African communities in the Diaspora, that, despite the colonial boundaries that separate us, despite our ethnic differences and varied languages and customs as well as the differences in our political and economic realities, we are one, " he continued.
The President emphasised Zimbabwe's commitment to upholding the principles of oneness and the country's eagerness to continue advancing the ideals of non-discrimination and peaceful coexistence.
"We are committed to play our part in the world in order to eliminate all forms of racism racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related injustices. We are born of the same African consciousness and remain united towards the common future as encapsulated in the African Union Agenda 2063."
The President praised the continued establishment and strengthening of African institutions to handle African problems as a demonstration of unwavering commitment to African unity and solidarity.
