Yesterday the nation of Zimbabwe stood still to commemorate the lives of sons and daugters of the soil who gave their lives to liberate the people from the york of slavery.

For some few these were lives wasted and mislived ,while to the majority of oppressed citizens it was a priceless sacrifice that culminated in the restoration of the black indigenous people's rights.

Today a generation of ungrateful and selfish citizens has advertently propagated itself upon the social and political fabric of this nation.Such is a generation which has failed to appreciate the good deeds and suffering that our forefathers bore to restore our dignity and pride as a people.
This is a generation that thinksand reasons by the stomach.Sad isnt it ?

Zimbabwe is among a few African nations who had to wage a bloody war of liberation inorder to extricate its people from the grip of colonialism. But regretably, to the dismay of many, neo-colonialism remain a glaring reality to this age.

The Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum ( CSCJF ) joined the nation in commemorating this important national event.

Ms Abigaile Mupambi who is CSCJF national coordinator graced this year's occassion which was held at the giant National Sports Stadium and addressed by H.E President ED Mnangagwa and this publication caught up with her for her opinion.

In her remarks Ms Mupambi took a dig at those activists who go on social media making disparaging remarks against our fallen Heroes and Heroines suggesting that they died for nothing. The freedom that we enjoy today cannot be equated to nothing.

Instead , she said those who think that Mbuya Nehanda,Sekuru Kaguvi,Lookout Masuku and many others died for nothing are indeed the ones that dont know what they are living for.

" When people fail to define their purpose in life they begin to think that our HEROES and HEROINES died for nothing when in fact it's them who are living for nothing. Big up to our fathers and mothers who successfully waged a POLITICAL struggle living us to finish the ECONOMIC struggle. Forward with unity of purpose, peace and development ", said Ms Mupambi.

In her message to Zimbabweans Ms Mpambi implored citizens to live responsible lives bearing in mind that indeed no generation lives for itself. We all live for and should offer our lives and make it our purpose to live to serve the unborn generations.Like they always say that we borrowed this nation from the future generations and thus we owe the future a safe and secure country.

Ms Mupambi said she has always found it hard to fanthom that with the level of education bequeathed upon our generation there are still some amongst us who choose to offer themselves up to voluntary neo-colonial servitude.

"The freedom to be our own master is priceless", she further said as she challenged the present generation to be Heroes in the maintenance of peace and fostering of rapid economic development for the benefit of the unborn generations.

In respect to the planned demonstrations of the 16th of August 2019 Mrs Mupambi encouraged Zimbabweans to reflect and take stock of the effects of the previous two demonstrations in August 2018 and January 2019 respectively which she described as an ever fresh wound and a scar upon the face of this nation.

To this end she urged Zimbabweans to be honest for once and decide if this is the route we really need to take as a nation. Is this the best way to solve our differences ? The clear answer is NO.

She said that these events have had the net effect of inculcating and fostering a culture of violence which only a few years back was a taboo and alien to our people. She therefore urged the nation's political leaders to show maturity and swallow, or at least spit their pride to the ground and engage in dialogue as a way to solving any differences.

She urged all national leaders to shun such activities as would attract negative attention towards our nation but instead pursue those initiatives that seek to potray our country in positive light. It is indeed a positive image that attracts positive solidarity and investment.

To this end she louded all Political Parties and leaders who joined hands in a dialogue  process ( POLAD ) which is meant to help the nation heal from the elections induced acrimony and vendettas. This she said was the only progressive thing to happen so far to our political landscape in the teething new dispensation. She urged other political parties and leaders to join this noble initiative and help heal our nation.

Mrs Mupambi said while demonstrations are allowed by our laws as a way of bringing to the attention of government those things that would have been overlooked, protests are not recognized and enshrined due their violent nature.Protests are by nature of their organization are a disruptive and destructive occurance whose benefits are yet to be discovered. She expressed hope that Zimbabweans will this time be responsible and shun violence in all their conduct.

After 23 years, UK-ZIM relations thawing

#SundayMussings  Prof. Jonathan Moyo It's International Relations 101 that a penchant for and infatuation with trivialities is not part of diplomacy, it's trivial pursuit. With this in mind, one does not have to hold a brief for anyone to understand that the coronation of King Charles III was essentially a showcase of an archaic and obnoxious tradition of hereditary rule - frowned upon in most parts of the world now under republican rule of one sort or another, while still a big deal in the United Kingdom of once upon a time, Great Britain - that dates back some 1,000 years ago. There’s therefore nothing geopolitically significant or even interesting about that primitive culture, where someone called Charles was crowned head of state by virtue of his birth at a ceremony where "His Majesty's Government" had no qualms about displaying the full repertoire of imperial loot like the stolen African Star and majestic gold from former British colonies, many of whose lead...

In defence of Lindiwe Sisulu - SA Constitution not Sacred, Judges not demi-gods

Professor Arthur Mutambara The SA Constitution is not Sacred and SA Judges are not Demigods.   By Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara 13 January 2022   Minister Lindiwe Sisulu penned an opinion piece on 7 January 2022 titled: ‘Hi Mzansi, have we seen justice?’  It was quite a refreshing critique of the challenges confronting South Africa.  Sisulu’s right to express herself and the content of her remarks must be vigorously defended without equivocation or ambiguity. On 8 January 2022, soon after I read the opinion piece, I publicly expressed the following remarks: ‘Wow, what a piece by Lindiwe Sisulu. I am pleasantly surprised that some in the ANC still get it and are prepared to articulate it eloquently. The issue is how to get such incisive thinking to influence the ANC and the country's direction. Is it a lost cause?’ I stand by these utterances. There has been quite several articles and remarks attacking Minister Sisulu. The ba...
LAWYERS DEMO : DELIVERY OF JUSTICE OR PROTECTING THE CASH COW ?   By Hosia Mviringi 31 January 2019 On 29 January 2019 the nation woke up to the news that Lawyers under the banner of the Law Society of Zimbabwe was demonstrating against lack of or misdelivery of justice in the Courts in Zimbabwe. I write this article with a heavy heart knowing that my brother is a loyal member of the fraternity.I will try to be professional and speak my mind. What baffles the mind is the fact that the Lawyers are officers of the same Courts which they have served under the Law Society of Zimbabwe in defence of the accused for many years since independence. They have not seen this so called misdelivery of justice until only yesterday after the violent demonstration of the 14th of January 2019. What has changed now to warrant the demonstration by the Lawyers against the same Courts to which they have served or are serving as officers and partners ? Lets try to unpack the conundrum. Soon...
